• quoted lines are not lining up properly

    From Nigel Reed@VERT to GitLab issue in main/sbbs on Monday, June 09, 2025 09:28:06
    open https://gitlab.synchro.net/main/sbbs/-/issues/937

    I wasn't even sure how to word this one...but the issue will become apparent.

    This is a bit of a netmail I received.

    ![image](https://gitlab.synchro.net/-/project/13/uploads/966d3067cfe6189ffc8bbbb0161b3c6c/image.png){width=963 height=510}

    and I'm going to reply to the sysop.

    Using the Quote feature in slyedit, it looks like this:

    ![image](https://gitlab.synchro.net/-/project/13/uploads/bf74c87fbd2fd19debb4b644db84fa7b/image.png){width=964 height=266}

    quote mode in fseditor shows similar ![image](https://gitlab.synchro.net/-/project/13/uploads/203d56da1efcda0a3ab28dfbd468d5b6/image.png){width=961 height=298}

    I'm not sure if this is coincidence or some function that sbbs provides.

    SlyEdit does line/word wrapping for the quote lines, which is probably why that's happening. It looks like FSEditor does the same thing.

    If you edit your SlyEdit.cfg and change reWrapQuoteLines setting to false, I think the quote lines will line up. But they'll be cut off at the end due to the quote prefix. I might make that quote wrapping option a user option in SlyEdit so users can toggle it on/off for certain messages if they want to.

    https://gitlab.synchro.net/main/sbbs/-/issues/937#note_7332

    I've added a user toggle option to SlyEdit, "Wrap quote lines to terminal width", so that the user can toggle whether to wrap the terminal lines (merge request [552](https://gitlab.synchro.net/main/sbbs/-/merge_requests/552)). Turning that off can help to preserve message formatting when quoting the message. Also, turning off the existing option "Quote with author's initials" will give back a couple extra characters of space when quoting if desired.

    Looks like you're getting somewhere with this with the authors (and I didn't know the answer). However, you may want to inform your uplink on the proper way to setup echolists. 1:218/700 shouldn't be showing you Zeronet (911:) areas in an Areafix response.

    Not even if you paid me. What I wrote had nothing to do with your BBS.

    You were posting screenshots. I pointed out an error I noticed in the screenshot, which (god forbid) had nothing to do with what you were asking about. I figured since you like to point out errors from every which direction all day long.. you might've been interested in that one, too.

    I understand now, though. It's only when /you/ report errors do you demand it gets fixed, otherwise a temper tantrum ensues.

    You make too many assumptions.

    First, you assume that I didn't request an area list for Zer0net.

    Second. You assume that you know what network I want to send a netmail from.

    Third, if the case is that these were incorrectly sent, you assume I have not addressed it already, because I seem to bitch about absolutely anything that isn't right, so you're telling me to do something that you must assume I have already done.

    I understand now, though. It's only when /you/ report errors do you demand it gets fixed, otherwise a temper tantrum ensues.

    If I report errors, it's usually actually related to something relevant. I didn't ask for comments about the content of the post, other than the fact the replies don't line up properly.

    Now, move along, there's nothing more to see here.

    If that were the case, then the response would have come from his 911:* node number. Just as well, I doubt the ZC of Zeronet would want that.

    Second. You assume that you know what network I want to send a netmail
    from.

    It was pretty obvious by your screenshots that something wasn't right. No need to make excuses.

    so you're telling me to do something that you must assume I have already done.

    Way to take this one way out in left field.

    There's a non-intuitive setting in scfg to limit areafix responses to
    the specific zone of the requester, does anyone recall where it is? I
    fixed this issue once years ago, but can't find it in my notes.

    Doesn't ring a bell. Maybe you're referring to keys/required keys for echocfg->echolists?

    It's not in SCFG.

    It's done in ../ctrl/sbbsecho.ini , which can be modified with 'echocfg'
    or by manually editing the .ini file. It's done with the Echolist
    definition stanzas in that file, and the "KEYS" key in each linked
    node's configuration. Documented on the Wiki.

    I'm pretty sure "allow nodes to add areas from areas file" in
    echocfg->echomail settings allows users to see all areas in the
    areas.bbs file, not just areas corresponding to the allowed keys. I ran
    into this a couple of years ago and seem to recall that behavior
    (%list% showing all areas)

    Maybe not non-intuitive, but if this is causing the behavior a caveat
    in the help file that this setting overrides echolist keys might be a
    good thing.
