• SBBSList question and issue...

    From Darkmage@VERT/MYSTRELM to All on Saturday, April 12, 2025 16:03:13
    First an observation. For the past couple of days while trying to absorb the information in the Synchronet wiki, I've notice the the page/board seems to be intermittently up/down. Just now I am trying to confirm my BBS entry for the Mystical Realm BBS and I cannot pull up the site.

    So, I am new to Synchronet. I was a Spitfire sysop back in the 80s and 90s and just getting back into this hobby. I repurposed a 1st gen Ubiquiti NVR, installed Debian 12 on it, cloned the Synchronet gihub and compliled from source. I have the BBS up and running on 2222 and 2323 (as well as rlogin).

    So, first my issue:
    I went into my Synchronet BBS list door, added my BBS but I noticed that it came into the main list wrong (no ports, no preview, etc.) I've since added my FidoNet node address and edited my description. I've attempted to rerun the sblupdat timed event to push my changes out, but the list at the main web page does not reflect my changes. I've tried this for the past 3-4 days. (My wife has been in the hospital, so my attention to this has been a little sporadic) I've tried to check again just now, and the entirety of synchro.net appears to be down? How can I update the mail list? It looks good on my board.

    My question. I've noticed on others boards that when logging off, the last screen presents the user with 10-15 or so Synchronet boards to try next. When I log off of my own board, I am directed to the main list at the website. How can I change this to serve up some (I am assuming) random boards from the sbbslist that is present in the BBS?

    One last ask...I've noticed some boards have screens (i.e. the login screen) that have menu that can be navigated by using the arrow keys to select 'log in' or 'new user' and even have more "jpeggy" looking splashes as opposed to ANSI like in the case of Digital Distortion or if solely looking at the menu aspect, Pharcyde?

    My linux server's primary drive was starting to show signs of failure, so I had to migrated to a new drive and took the opportunity to the migrate to a newer system as well. It took a few hours.

    So, first my issue:

    synchro.net/sbbslist.html is regenerated nightly. It can take a little while to see your changes there. If you login to Vertrauen and use the Synchronet BBS List door, you'll see the changes sooner.

    I've tried to check again just now, and the entirety of
    synchro.net appears to be down?

    Same reason I just explained above.

    How can I update the mail list? It looks good on my board.

    If you're on DOVE-Net or FidoNet and the entry has been exported to SYNCDATA, it should appear in the newly generated sbbslist.html within 24 hours.

    The stock text/menu/logoff.msg file endswith this:
    Or try one of these systems, today:

    @exec:sbbslist-logoff@

    Does yours?
